Went and saw a collection of these movies at a theaterpub in NE Portland. Repetitive at times, but thermonuclear testing is something everyone really ought to see sometime. Aside from being strangely beautiful, it’s a heavy reminder that nuke bombs are so much more than just another weapon in the arsenal. And military movies are so unintentionally funny that disturbing laughter burst out during the screening. Some of the atomic veterans, seen in the film in tiny camo shorts and Hawaiian shirts testing radiation effects, attended the show.
I vaguely remember calling my friend Jerry later in the night, wasted, and telling him that if the Capitol was ever hit with even a small nuke, he’d be fucked, as he lives in Alexandria, VA.
